Wordless, BC Legislative Assembly Victoria

It almost reads like a contradictions in terms, it does seems hard to imagine any legislature to be wordless, so We have added a few.

As part of this weekends Be A Tourist In Your Own Hometown, both Linda and I have been visiting many of the Down Town Attractions, and we thought is would be appropriate to show you (as our first Report) what we experienced and we hope you enjoy our short Picture Tour of the BC Legislature Assembly or often also referred to as the BC Parliament Buildings, we here in Victoria are very proud of these stunning buildings and its beautiful design and interior.

Victoria BC, Classic Boat Festival, September 2 - 5, 2011

Once again and for the 34th year, Pfanntastic, Victoria's Inner Harbour  entertain 10,000's and host up to 100 beautifully restored classic boats from all over the Pacific Coast and this year as far away as New Zealand to be judged by a respected panel of international maritime experts.

This year will see many New festival activities all along the Inner Harbour.
Free public viewing of the vessels is welcomed throughout the festival on many of these amazing masterpieces of history and craftmanship
for your entertainment we have included a short slide presentation from some of the pictures from the 2010 event.

We hope you will enjoy the Classic Boat Festival along the Victoria Inner Harbour, and be sure to say hi when you see us dreaming along this beautiful ships..

Come to downtown Victoria and Be WOW'd  On  6 Stages and 3 stops, along the Inner Harbour and  various location in Downtown, with hourly performances by buskers from around the world.

The Victoria Buskers Festival started on July 15, and will finish this Sunday. guaranteed to entertain and amaze you  
From personal experience, just today with a few minute visit near the Q radio station, it will grab you attention and make you smile (for Free). Although tips are welcomed and encouraged, there is no actual fee for any of this Pfanntastic entertainment.
A program guide is available for sale at the lower level of the Bay Centre and at the Tourism Victoria Office at the Inner Harbour office for $ 2.00

Last Chance, Victoria  Buskers Festival  Now till July 24

Canada Day Events in Victoria July 01 - 03, 2011

Okay, yes we know, technically Canada Day is July 01, 2011, but as Canada Day happens to be on a Friday, there will be Canada Day Events all over Victoria  July 01 - 03, 2011.

To even try to capture all of the events and activities in and around greater Victoria during Canada Day Weekend would be nearly impossible, so we will focus on a few over the next few days.

Today we will focus on the Inner Harbour Events. As all the Greater Victoria Residents will already know, the BIG events typically take place at the Inner Harbour in Downtown Victoria, and this year promises to be one Pfanntastic Party.

Rather than us trying to explain all of the events, the musical and other artistic performers, the First nations Welcome, the Living Flag, the Food, the 3 day long activities and the Fireworks.....

We suggest you check out the Special Victoria Canada Day Website that shows and explains all the family save fun that will be available over the entire 3 day weekend.

There is no doubt that there will be something to see, enjoy and or participate in for every person in your family with approx. 30 performances on the Canada Stage and many many international foods to explore and enjoy at ship Point during the International Food Village Festival.

Walking Under a Blanket of Beauty, is how Linda and I felt the other day on a little visit to Downtown Victoria

It is so easy to take the Beauty and Climate of Greater Victoria for granted, but when Gary Coles posted a few pictures about "Spring in the Rockies" I could not stop shivering and feeling rather cold......

Many people still think that living in Canada automatically means : Ice, Snow, Polar Bears, Mittens and Snow Boots........ In and Around Greater Victoria this could not be further from the truth......

Here are a few pictures from just the other day at a little park between the Empress Hotel, the Victoria Conference Centre, The Crystal Gardens and BC Royal Museum.

Now I could be wrong, but this time of the year....... We kinda prefer our blankets of beauty when you walk a path surrounded with blossoming trees, it just feels and looks a lot better than that other white stuff in Gary's pictures, and trust me, it is much easier to clean too....

Sorry Gary, but I could not resist to compare your white stuff with ours....... what do you think.

Victoria BC, Then and Now Part 2.

In Part 2 of our Victoria BC, Then and Now, we take a look at the Empress Hotel. In fact we start with a picture that was taken prior to the construction of the Hotel.

Interesting to see a bridge where now the cause-walk and Government St. Sea Wall would be constructed.

this picture was likely taken from the then newly completed Parliament Buildings.

In 1900, the first phase of what we know as the Empress was completed, and as they say, " the rest is History"

As can be seen the sea wall and much of what we now enjoy as the waterfront cause-walk was in place and all of the land needed for the construction of the Hotel was reclaimed from the sea/ inner harbour.

The reason why so many identify with the Empress rather than the Parliament buildings as the face of Victoria is because for decades the Empress has been the favorite destination and a home away from home for visitors to Victoria for many generations.

Even today, regardless is your are staying at the Empress, or just passing through, The hotel, its Tea room and the Gardens are still one of the must do landmarks in our beautiful city.

Many Victoria attractions, events and activities find their starting point in the inner harbour, and for residents and visitors alike "going Downtown" is still a very enjoyable event, and every time there is some thing new, interesting, and memorable about the experience.

Peter has been in Victoria since late 1990, and Linda a few years shorter, and we are still in AWE of this magnificent city and in particular we enjoy the inner harbour area for its history, its BUZZ, and its ability to put smiles on faces of all ages and all origins.

In weeks to come we will continue to travel the streets, trails and parks of Greater Victoria, and by doing so trying to show and tell you a little about our community, its past its present and from time to time its future.

Greater Victoria Labor Day Festivities for all Ages

Labor day weekend all over North America  and Victoria is a special weekend of mixed emotions, new beginnings, changes in schools, the end of summer, kids leaving home for college or university, parents coming home to an empty house.

It is a bit of a roller coaster of emotions for many, and a pfanntastic opportunity to spend some fun time with the family at a large variety of events and activities all over the Capital Region, and in particular around Victoria and Saanich BC.

Today we want to highlight 2 awesome very family friendly events that have been around longer than many of us have been in or around Greater Victoria.

First of all, the 143 th. Saanich Fair, did you read that, 143 th time this event is being held and every year it is as much fun as if it was the first time ever. The Saanich Fair has something for everybody, animals, food, music, midway, you name it, but to me the most enjoyable part of the Saanich Fair is watching the kids and animals interact, it is just so much fun to see the young ones in awe and a little scared, but still drawn to most animals.

If you have kids, be sure to check out the Saanich Fair, and bring your Camera, you will be taking pictures that will become memories for a lifetime. Here is the link to the Saanich Fair  Website.

The 2nd Big event we always encourage Victoria Residents and Visitors to make sure to add to their calendar is the Victoria Classic Boat Festival. This year is the 33th. edition, and from their website information it promises to be just an awesome event and display of, living history, personal determination and commitment to preserving just an amazing connection with the sea, our heritage and our communities.

Being able to view and access some of these amazing boats is a real privilege, and listening to some of the stories from the owners and crew, is a real pleasure for people of all ages.

Regardless on what you decide to do this Labor Day Weekend, we hope you enjoy it with friends family and loved ones.
